A volunteer campaign for transparency and fairness
In the summer of 2022 a number of Scottish activists became aware of the Scottish government and UK government plan to implement two Freeports in Scotland.
We set about researching these zones. The more we read, the more concerned we became. It also became apparent that most Scots knew nothing about Freeports.
So we set up the Freeports Campaign group and set about organising public meetings within the Cromarty Freeport and Forth Freeport boundaries.
We held our first public meeting in Inverness in August 2023, to around 20 people. We have held numerous public meetings since and have covered both SEZs or investment zones too, in the North East of Scotland and in Glasgow Region.
“Scotland’s future is being shaped by decisions few people know about. The Scotland Not For Sale campaign is a volunteer-led group dedicated to shining a light on government-backed projects — such as Freeports, Investment Zones, and large-scale energy developments — that risk changing our communities in ways that aren’t always transparent. We believe the people of Scotland deserve clarity, fairness, and a real say in what happens next.”
Three years ago, a group of volunteers from across Scotland came together with a shared concern: too much was happening behind closed doors. Local councils were under pressure, public services were stretched, and communities were being left out of the conversation. We decided to act — by researching, sharing information, and helping others understand what’s at stake.”
“We exist to inform and empower people in Scotland by uncovering the facts, making them accessible, and encouraging open discussion.”
